Wonwoo Lee
Wonwoo Lee (b.1981) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on sculpting “situations” that invite viewers to re-experience everyday life. Working across sculpture, installation, performance, text, and image, Lee draws from personal memory, social phenomena, and imagined scenarios, often transforming them through irony and humor. While his works employ elements of black humor, slapstick, and banal jokes, these devices function as points of entry rather than ends in themselves, opening space for reflection on lived experience and human vulnerability. By altering or overturning given conditions, Lee creates immersive situations that are playful yet not lighthearted, encouraging audiences to reconsider their own lives and the underlying conditions of contemporary existence.
He received his BFA from Hongik University and his MA from the Royal College of Art. He has been actively exhibiting works at various museums including the Seoul Museum of Art, Art Sonje Center, Amorepacific Museum of Art, and Songzhuang Art Museum in Beijing.
