Today, images and texts are produced and consumed in closer proximity than ever before, yet we rarely pause to consider the fundamentally different logics through which each medium operates. This exhibition begins with a simple question: What becomes possible when image and text meet as equal forms?
In cinema, a MacGuffin is a device that sets a story in motion without determining its outcome. In this exhibition, paintings and sculptures, ranging from the figurative to the abstract, function as MacGuffins: rather than explaining themselves, they become points of departure for interpretation.
The exhibition carries this inquiry into writing. Visitors are invited to read and collect working drafts, composed in response to the visual works, by five writers. Drawing on their distinct cultural backgrounds and perspectives, the authors’ readings of the artworks often diverge from the artists’ intentions, revealing an inevitable slippage between visual and written forms.
